Integrated Vegetation Management
One thing is for certain-the weed population is not diminishing. Indeed every time that a weed is slashed in a native pasture that weed regenerates to be stronger and competes even more so with the native pastures. Woody weeds are vigorous and hardy. Their persistent nature means it is essential to use a programmed approach to control them.

Weeds cost Australia more than $4 billion per year, according to a Cooperative Research Centre for Australian Weed Management (Weeds CRC) report released July 2007. That’s more than salinity. And it’s approximately the same as the annual cost of illicit drugs to Australian business, or the yearly value of our gold exports.
Weeds choke our waterways, strangle and smother our native vegetation and rob our farmers of valuable land. The best way to combat weeds is to develop an integrated approach to weed management combining all appropriate weed control options. There is a concern that climate change will place greater stress on improved pasture and cropping country. As a consequence they may be less competitive which would open the way to new or greater weed invasions.
